The Expressionist Workshop 1
We create a dynamic atmosphere where we push and expand the boundaries of physical strength, stamina, and detailed expression. It is targeted at dance artists and movement enthusiasts who wish to grow in endurance, creativity, and focus. We will pass through many different layers and approaches to movement. The goal is to articulate and dissect the body into micro pieces, leading us to gather those pieces into one homogenous instrument of power warming up absolutely every cell, and opening all the senses. When we dissolve our minds and bodies we gain the freedom to reprogram the system. We build ourselves from scratch. The new constellation of thoughts and movement articulation provides us with choice in movement and an open, re-energized body. As the body is rebuilt and torn apart the voice comes into play. Voice – a powerful tool made to communicate, exaggerate, and minimize our emotional states, our intuition, and our intelligence. The body is ready to learn, relearn, and investigate different pathways and textures. We play between failing and conquering and the surpassing feeling between those two extremes. Once all our generators are in play we go into detailed and designed expressions. Though emphasizing and diminishing our emotional charge – both expressed through the body and the voice (as sound and as text). Here, physical virtuosity is combined with a very detailed expression of mental states and emotions. It is a search for dialogue and harmony between all layers of cognitive awareness. Alongside improvisational tasks, we will also be working with forms and choreography. This will naturally lead us to work inside our technical capabilities.
The workshop is intended for dancers over 15 years of age with previous dance experience.
